Eugene Opera’s Education and Outreach Programs
With a commitment to spreading the good word about opera, Eugene Opera’s Opera-tunities offers many exciting and individually designed programs to suit all ages and situations.

Through in-school concerts, Eugene Opera’s Resident Artists introduce students to the diverse world of opera.

While entertaining and educating, the singers interactively demonstrate the special use of the opera singer’s voice. Adding some costume pieces and props, the singers show the effectiveness of other aspects of this theatrical art form.

Using appropriate arias and duets chosen from the standard repertoire, the audience learns about English, German, Italian and French stories, getting a very international taste of opera.

Opera-tunities also provides fully staged performance, with scenery, costumes and props.

Residency programs are also possible. Eugene Opera can offer talks and workshops by members of our professional team. On June 12 and 13, Springfield’s Guy Lee Elementary School performed their own opera, completely created by the students with our collaboration! They learned about opera by building one from scratch! This event was even covered as a feature news article by KVAL-13.

Other Outreach Programs
Opera and Musical Theater concerts can be specially designed for your entertainment and it can come to you.

But you can also attend our FREE Opera-Insights, an hour-long lecture/demo of the operas from our upcoming season. One week prior to opening, Maestro Ashens and guests from the production offer “insider info” in Studio One of the Hult Center. A lively and humorous time is had by all.

Beginning this year, Maestro Ashens will also offer FREE Pre-curtain Highlights, starting 45 minutes prior to curtain, 20 minutes in length. In the lobby of the Hult Center each night of all the operas, it is a little “taste of treats to come”, effectively preparing you for the evening’s opera.

SHOcase also features a FREE half-hour sample of each opera, usually one week prior to the performance, in the lobby of the Hult Center. Featured are cast members, singing selections in costume, with narration by Maestro Ashens.
